7 Fall Fashion Trends to Try This Season

What do the seven fall fashion trends I am recommending this season have in common? They are all easy to wear and adaptable into your current wardrobe. As you can imagine, there are so many more fall fashion trends than these seven, but these were the ones that I saw most frequently when doing my research.

They may not all be for you – and that’s ok. You don’t have to include or go all-in on any of them. Like leopard but worry it’s a little much? Try a belt or handbag. Think boho is too flowy? Pair a ruffled chiffon blouse with a classic pair of jeans and I bet you will love the look.

So, in no particular order, here are the top fall fashion trends I liked best and think you will too.

Fall Fashion Trends 2024 Summary

Overall, I found that for Fall 2024, fashion is shifting in a more polished and dressier direction.

The TV show “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” had a huge impact on the runways this season. There is a new sense of sophistication that emulates the looks of the 1950’s and 60’s and designers are taking cues from elegant socialites like C.Z. Guest and Babe Paley from that era.

You’ll see that look in the more preppy styles as well. Oversized blazers are being taken over by hourglass blazers, giving you a more tailored fit. Funnel necks coats and tops are giving a nice streamlined look. “Country House Chic” will bring you back to the traditional looks of fall such as plaid, full skirts and barn jackets.

There is a flip side of course. Boho is back and bigger than ever. So think flowy fabrics, fringe, crochet, suede and more. And “comfort meets style” in the latest fall fashion trend in coats – think all things capes, ponchos and scarf coats.

The Return of Ladylike Elegance

This is the one trend that I saw the most when doing my research. There is a shift towards elevated silhouettes. The runways showed rolled-collared necklines at Chanel, A-line silhouettes at Valentino and embellished evening coats at Erden.

You will also see softly molded tops and pencil skirts, long leather jackets and court heels. This is where the “hourglass” blazers with their nipped-in waists are becoming hugely popular. Other important pieces include pillbox hats, lady jackets, shearling stoles, kitten heels, structured bags and 50’s couture cocktail dresses. Blazer dresses are also making a return as are ultra-slim pants like cigarette pants (think classic Audrey Hepburn)

This is a great trend for vintage lovers. Designers are re-imagining the idea of womanly dressing. It wasn’t that long ago that Y2K style, marked by bright neons, chain mail and crop tops, were the biggest aesthetic in fashion.

Boho is Back

I personally have mixed feelings when it comes to Boho styles. On one hand, I love the femininity of the fabrics and the comfortable fit. On the other hand, it can be a little too flowy and oversized for my personal style. That’s why I recommended the flowy blouse with a pair of classic jeans above – that’s something that I would do. It gives you a loose, casual feel, but still maintains some structure.

For Boho this season, think crochet, fringe, suede, dark florals and lace. Fringe, especially, is huge this season and I will talk more about that a little further down the page. This is another trend that you can add to your wardrobe in small pieces like a fringe or crochet bag.

Snuggle Up With Scarf Coats, Ponchos and Capes

I already mentioned the “comfort meets style” feeling around this fall fashion trend. Think of yourself being wrapped up in a warm blanket all winter long. And while this is mostly a coat trend, I did find some fun sweaters that give that same cozy vibe.

Adding Accents – More Fringe, Bows, Feathers & Rosettes

The craziness over bows from just last year is over, but these accents are here to stay. I mentioned that fringe is back from a Boho perspective, but it is also big in Western wear this season. Fringe is a great way to express movement in your outfits.

Animal Print – Leopard Leads the Pack

I am sure this trend is not a surprise for you – it started in late summer and it’s been everywhere. Animal print really never goes out of style, but it’s become a major thread among the fall fashion trends for 2024. One quote I loved was “it brings boldness into neutral territory” and I think that’s a great descriptor.

Leopard is the animal print you will see most this season, but will also see some zebra and snakeskin as well.

Funnel Necks

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really understood what a funnel neck is. Is a funky turtleneck or a tighter cowl neck. So I looked it up. A funnel neck is “a high neckline that is wider at the top than the bottom. It is cut or knit into the torso in one piece, rather than being an added collar.” In addition to being fashionable and modern, they are also practical when it’s cold outside.

Funnel neck coats can make you appear taller and give the illusion of an elongated neck. They come in different colors, fabrics, and styles. I’ve also included some fun funnel neck tops as well.

Preppy And Classic

Preppy is another one of those trends that is never really out of style, but it can be more dormant at times. Personally, I think the rise of popularity of pickleball and tennis fashions have brought back the interest in preppy fashion. Think full skirts, button down shirts, leather loafers, sharp blazers and V-neck sweaters. You can also add in varsity jackets, bold plaids and polo knits.

One look that I am calling a subset of preppy is “Country House Chic”. It’s dressing like you’re going to a house in the English Countryside. Think plaids, relaxed layer, long skirts, waxed jackets, checked coats and knee-high wellies.
